It's hard when we find the right job in the wrong place/ at the wrong time - can you ask them toove it to the UK? 😉😂 Fwiw, I got offered my "ideal" job right before graduating, the type of job I'd been hoping to land, for various reasons I turned it down, 15byears later I'm so glad I did because if I hadn't I would be unlikely to be where I am now ❤️
I have this exact thought but about living in London. I always assumed after uni I would move to London to get a job & really romanticised living in the capital. However, in my last year of uni I met my now husband and so decided to stay in Brighton a bit longer. Flash forward 7 years and my partner is now living with a disability that would make navigating living in a big city difficult (especially as he relies on a car a lot). I know I'm never going to live in London realistically, but I still think about what it would be like to have access to so many museums, bookshops and theatres so easily. I don't even live that far away but is so different having to plan a day to do something, than being able to do something in a single evening.
The way you feel about New York is how I feel about London! I so wish I could live there (after loving it during uni) but I’m feeling more and more settled where I am. Also, I’d love to be on the creator newsletter!
I agree with you that this is a bad time to relocate to the USA. If I were not already in the USA, I would not come here. I still like NYC. One of my early memories was going with my father to his office in the Empire State Building. I enjoyed the World's Fair. My first crush lived on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn. I drove from Seattle to NYC to meet the love of my life at JFK Airport, we drove back to Seattle together and were married in Seattle - then we went to England.
I've been back to NYC several times, and it is true you can never go home again... everything changes, even if many of the building stay the same. Still, I love London, which I only knew in the previous century. I wonder if I'd still find it so marvellous.
So, I think you are being very sensible and not relocating to this country at this time. Still, if you ever ignore my advice and end up in the West coast of America, come see me where I live a few hundred meters from the Pacific Ocean. Keep well and do good work.
As a British person, living in Boston MA, with a kid and away from my family this was so weird for me to read. It was like you were looking me dead in the eye and saying "Your life? Nah, don't want it".
I would say that the likelihood of Patreon having the time and money to jump through all the visa sponsorship hoops when they could much more easily hire an American is almost 0, which sucks when you want to move abroad.
It's so hard to be in a time of career flux, especially when TTC. I hope you find some clarity soon!
The day I interviewed for what could potentially be my dream job I found out I was pregnant and thus removed myself from the recruitment process, no regrets so far. :p
Question - I'm a new subscriber and was wondering if there's a way to access the previous newsletter posts? I've read some but definitely don't see 68 on the list here. 😅
I have often thought about living elsewhere for a while but it is a huge undertaking! Perhaps I should’ve done it at uni when I had fewer commitments but even then there were still barriers. I think you’ve articulated an experience many of have or will go through very well!

Hahaha and isn’t that the beauty of us getting to live different lives! I hope you’re having a great experience!

Afraid the old ones were on my previous mailchimp account and they’re not public anywhere anymore!
